Creating a new page or article

Adding a new page to your site is quick and easy.

  1. Login to the CMS (see logging in instructions)
  2. From the Overview or Articles tab, click Create new article.
  3. Enter your content:
    1. Title: This is the title of your page and will usually be displayed at the top of your website. Keep it short but it's a good idea to use at least one good keyword in the title to help with search engine ranking.
    2. Excerpt: Some sites use this depending on the design. If you have been advised to use this, click Add an excerpt and enter the content in the box that appears.
    3. Main content: Here you can enter the content for this page. Take a look at our formatting guide for more info on how to style your content.
    4. Tags: You may or may not need to use this. If you have a shopping cart, job application system or other custom plug-ins, you may need to specify specific tags to enable addition functionality. For example, if you have a cart, the tag products indicates that a particular page is required to display products.
    5. Save as Draft: If you choose yes, the page will not be displayed on the website but can be edited until it's ready.
    6. Publish on this date: If you post-date an article, it will not appear online until the date you specify here. This is useful for setting up press-releases for example.
    7. In right column:
      1. Publish in these sections: You need to select one or more sections in which to publish your content. The default is the home section but this is rarely the section you will want to publish your new pages in.
      2. Assets (Latest / Attached / Bucket / Search): Take a look at our article on uploading images or files and attaching images to an article or page. It's important to be aware that you cannot attach assets until a page has been saved for the first time.
      3. Permanent link: This will be the URL for your new page. If you leave it blank, it will use your title, replacing spaces with dashes. For example, if your domain is www.yourwebsite.co.nz and your new page is titled "Welcome to my website", the permanent link would automatically be "welcome-to-my-website". You may wish, in such a case, to specify just "welcome" for example.
  4. Click Save Article.
